Internal funding
at Warwick
Teaching
Development Fund
The University
sets aside £30-40k per academic year for teaching development.
The fund aims to support developments and excellence in learning
and teaching, with the emphasis being on innovation in curriculum
development and an underpinning of the goals and targets set out
in the University's Learning and Teaching Strategy.

Academic
Staff Development Fund
Academic
staff may apply to this central fund to attend courses, seminars
or workshops with the aim of developing research, teaching or
other aspects of academic practice. Such events may include: making
effective research grant or fellowship applications, project management,
managing a research team.
New Academic
Development Fund. Funding
for 15 new academic posts (8 in 02/03 and a further 7 in 03/04)
is available for departments to bid to Estimates and Grants Committee,
to reward success in RAE 2001, to invest for future RAE and expand
capacity to increase research volume, through growing research
income and postgraduate research student numbers.

Teaching
Quality Enhancement Fund
The University
is awarded TQEF from HEFCE for implementing and supporting the
Learning and Teaching Strategy. Each year, the University reports
to HEFCE about the expenditure of the TQEF to ensure the funds
are being spent on supporting the Strategy's goals. The second
phase of Warwick's Learning and Teaching strategy, for the period
2002-2005, has generated funding of £492,600. It will permit
further expansion of accredited provision for learning and teaching
and of the skills programme, together with developments in the
fields of evaluation and research-based learning.

External Funding
Fund for
the Development of Teaching and Learning
The FDTL
invites bids from HEIs that demonstrate high quality in their
educational provision. Projects are engaged in a wide range of
different activities aimed at stimulating developments in teaching
and learning to encourage the dissemination of good practice across
the higher education sector. There have been three previous phases
of FDTL funding and phase
4 successful bids have just been announced.

FDTL
The following
subject areas have undergone a subject review and will be applicable
for funding within the FDTL programme in approximately Autumn
2004. The circular with invitations to bid, will be circulated

Research
bodies
The research
funding bodies support teaching and learning development work.
Current funding opportunities for the Economic and Social Research
Council (ESRC) which funds educational development research projects
can be found on the ESRC
research funding page. The Arts and Humanities Research Board
also offers small grants in the creative and performing arts resource
enhancement schemes: see AHRB
Research awards.
European
Commission's Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Development
FP6 offers
large scale funding for high quality research and international
co-operation focusing on integrated projects that bring together
networks of excellence in European countries. The EC's research
information server CORDIS: Community Research Information Service
provides a facility for searching across all EU research programmes
and areas of funding, including FP6.
