Administrative/Biographical History

The Bicycle Union was formed in 1878. It amalgamated with the Tricycle Association in 1882, and in 1883 was re-named the National Cyclists' Union. In 1959 the National Cyclists' Union amalgamated with the British League of Racing Cyclists to become the British Cycling Federation.

Scope and Content

Bundles of completed application forms to race as an amateur under National Cyclists' Union rules, 1897-1899, and of posters respecting exhibitions, shows, warnings against reckless cycle riding, etc. of the Lincolnshire Centre of the National Cyclists' Union, with other printed matter and some correspondence, c. 1898-1900, printed lists of amateur riders from several centres (Leicester, West Riding etc.), holding licences to compete at meetings under National Cyclists' Union rules, 1897-99, programme for National Cyclists' Union English amateur and professional championships, 1900; and a few issues of The Cyclist ..., 1899-1900, The Wheel ... ,1899, The Automotor & Horseless Vehicle Journal ,1898, Cycling ,1900, Bicycling News, 1900, and M.A.P,, 1898.
