Return to the Table of Contents Historical NoteThe union was formed in 1920 when various unions amalgamated to form the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Braziers. In 1959 the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Braziers amalgamated with the National Society of Coppersmiths, Braziers and Metal Workers to form the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Coppersmiths. In 1967 this amalgamated with the Heating and Domestic Engineers' Union to form the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers, Coppersmiths, Heating and Domestic Engineers. In 1983 the union became part of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Section). In 1988, the Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Section merged with the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs to form Manufacturing, Science, Finance. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentThe archive comprises records of the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers, Coppersmiths, Heating and Domestic Engineers as well as records of its two main predecessors, the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Coppersmiths and the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Braziers. For the most part, the three unions are not differentiated in the list. From 1920 to 1959 the records are those of the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Braziers, from 1959 to 1967 they are those of the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Coppersmiths and from 1967 to 1983 they are of the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers, Coppersmiths, Heating and Domestic Engineers.
