Other perks include free access to the entire centre- no more gym memberships or swimming fees as well as a fantastic sense of responsibility and making a difference. This is an invaluable skill which one day may make a life-or-death difference! Click here for more details.

Q&A

What if I just like the CPR and First Aid bits but not the Lifesaving?
This is still the place for you! We offer full First Aid at Work qualifications (3 day course) at some point during the year. Alternatively, if you are up for becoming a guru on your CPR and first Aid, then complete the extension award Life Support 3 from the basic qualification Life Support. If you want to immerse yourself in all of this at the highest level, come and complete the NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) – See above.

I’ve never done anything like this before, should I be worried about coming?
Fear not! The majority of the club had never done anything related to this before they came to university so you are in the majority and this year will be no different, we assure you. We cater for everyone and would be delighted if you would join us for this fantastic experience. It looks great on CV’s. For those with experience, we offer a huge ranger of awards and the chance to climb the qualification ladder and build on your knowledge.

I want to be a Lifeguard, am I in the right place?
Indeed you are! We hold an annual NPLQ in the first week of the Christmas Break (around 10th Dec). We also secured a large subsidy last year which brought the price down to £95 (RRP £220). See above for more details. Who are the RLSS? The RLSS is the Royal Lifesaving Society and they are the national body for information and education on water safety around Swimming Pools, Rivers and the Sea. Their job is to keep people safe and their biggest specialism is training Lifeguards, over 500 NPLQ courses run every year (max 12 candidates per course) to keep the Leisure Industry safe. The club is fortunate enough to have a few official RLSS Trainer/Assessors to run select qualifications.

What do I do to become a Trainer?
All the clubs Trainers qualified as T/A’s after starting university and joining Warwick Lifesaving. If you are interested in becoming a T/A, then they’d be willing to offer guidance and support.

I love the competing side of Lifesaving, why should I consider qualifications?
The content of these qualifications is what you are judged against. Hone your skills here and put them through their paces so that at the next competition you attend, you’ll be up to date and firing on all cylinders with the know-how behind you!

Ask our trainers for the right qualifications for you. Got a question, but need an answer? Email us, we’re a friendly bunch and will always get back to you. We were in your shoes once so we understand it can be nerve-racking in a new place with new people. Make your friends and your home here!
