Perdita woman: Katherine Thomas

Biography

Katherine Thomas was married, with at least two children - Katherine, who died as an infant in 1665, and Dorothy, who died in 1676. Their mother wrote elegies on both children. In all, seven of her poems are known to survive. She also wrote a letter of advice to her children, in the event of her death. It is not known whether she survived all her children, but she certainly survived her (unidentified) husband, who died in 1671.

Thomas's friend, Elizabeth Pierce, died on 18 February 1671, and was buried in Bath. Hence, it may be suggested that Thomas herself also resided in Bath. The only other biographical information to be gleaned from Thomas's commonplace book is that she had a sister, or sister-in-law, named King, out of whose book she copied some religious meditations.
